6 months already!

Seriously, time has flown!


Mason had his 6 month doctor's appointment on Friday and took his shots like a champ... except for 5 hours later when he suddenly reacted to them. We were sitting in Red Robin when he spontaneously went from smiling to wailing - out of the blue -and continued to do so for 50 minutes. He got a quick 102.5 temperature and wouldn't be consoled by anything. Yikes! Luckily he was back to himself within 24 hours, but it was not a fun time, poor guy! I am so grateful for my regular happy, smiling babe. Anyone else had their baby react to one set of shots but not another?


Here are his stats: 14 lbs 12 oz & 27 1/2 inches. Still our little, long peanut! I am pretty sure he lost a little weight this past week since getting his very first cold (hes hardly been eating anything)...we're talking like 1/2-3/4 of a lb. haha But hey, every 1/2 lb counts right now, right? As of tonight he is starting to eat more again (though we're still at 1/2 the amount of food he was eating) - and he is LOVING butternut squash.




As far as his recent happenings... he is sitting up really well and can even get to sitting on his own. He scoots/creeps/lunges anywhere he wants to go and gets there - no more sitting him on a blanket and expecting him to still be there if I leave the room for a sec! He is 2 seconds away from full-on crawling - heaven help me! He is an active little dude and will definitely give me a run for my money. He has had sweet potato and squash so far and will be getting some carrot this week... yum yum. We're at the stage where he loves everything that isn't an actual 'toy' -- like, shoes, magazines, any paper, furniture, etc. He has also started getting sooooo excited whenever he sees his Daddy! Today when Matt came home from meetings after church Mason's face lit up and he started squealing in delight! I love it!

If there is paper to be crumpled, he will find it... glad the Doc didn't mind :)

Babyfood extravaganza

I decided a while back I wanted to make my own babyfood... no particular reason, just, why not? I like to cook, I like to save money, and it sounded like a good use of time. I picked up some produce and dove headfirst into the task this week with the assistance of my birthday present - a food processor!

Step 1... wash/cut/scoop/prick/peel/chop

Step 2: cook (bake, steam, etc)

Step 3: stick it in this great contraption

Step 4: put product in ice cube trays, freeze, pop out



Step 5: Store in freezer bags for up to 3 months (optimal use) - take out cubes as needed!

For $6.94 I now have 129 oz of babyfood. The carrots cost a little over 1 cent an ounce (amazing deal - $1 for 5 lbs), butternut squash was 9 cents an ounce, and sweet potatoes were 7 cents an ounce. I didn't look for a good deal on the squash and potatoes... since they're not in season and I didn't take the time to look around, I just bought them at the same store I got the carrots. So, who knows, maybe I can make those for even cheaper if I shop right. All in all, I am quite satisifed and will be doing this again!

Happy Birthday... to me!

Quarter of a century. Yeap, I am finally there. Friday was my birthday and I lived it up like a 24 year old (25 sounds so mature...). Although I don't usually like odd numbers, I think I actually like 25. In fact, I am counting 25 as even since 4 of them go into 100... heh heh heh.

Anyyyyyway, the day started a little rocky with Mason not wanting to fall asleep for his first nap, but quickly turned around. Diana brought over some AMAZING homemade bread and jam (its gone already...hah), Kristen & Ellie took me out to lunch to Rumbi (yum-o), Matt came home early from work, and I got taken out on a great date! We went to Chili's (indulged in a virgin pina colada... fitting since we ended up sitting at the bar), ran by the mall, and then went and played pool! I knew it was my lucky night when they assigned us to table #24 (fav #)... and sure enough, I schooled Matt. :) It must have been luck, because he usually beats me. You can bet I am not letting him forget who won this time!

Cute, right? I think so!

Beautiful weather = fun

Matt surprised me with an early birthday present and took me to the Tulip Festival Saturday! Unfortunately the garden was only at 40% bloom (that's what the bloom-o-meter told us), but it was still a beautiful day and the garden was so fresh, green, and alive - I loved it! Mason also enjoyed it, smiling and laughing the whole way (we're still not sure what he found so funny...).

With such a gorgeous day today we definitely needed to be outside again. After church we hung out on a blanket for a bit and then took a Sunday saunter (thanks Beck!)... so out came the red wagon for its very first tour! We got this wagon as a Christmas gift for Mason from Matt's step brother and sister in law and have been so excited to use it. Mason is in love. I am sure it will continue to have much use as the warm weather continues!

A few days ago I got a sunburn. Today, I might get frostbite. Against popular belief, these are not the same thing. Boo-hoo. Luckily, it looks like it'll be 70 and sunny on Sunday.

Easter!

HAPPY EASTER!

Although the weather is pretty up-and-down now-a-days (today it was near 70 and sunny, Wednesday it is supposed to snow), Easter turned out to be beautiful! I always love a pretty day for Easter because it reminds me of the joy that our Savior brings. What a wonderful Holiday!

I tried to take some pictures of Mason on Friday in his outfit that my Mom got for him, but apparently it was still too sunny for his baby blues -even with some cloud cover... hence the squinty eyes! Guess I should have found some sunglasses for my little stud!

When my outdoor photo shoot was cut short I resorted to entertaining myself with him inside... Matt didn't approve when he saw these. haha I'm not sure Mason did either (note the tongue sticking out in the bottom picture!).

We had a great day and topped it off with dinner with Matt's family - thanks for cooking, Linda!
