I decided a while back I wanted to make my own babyfood... no particular reason, just, why not? I like to cook, I like to save money, and it sounded like a good use of time. I picked up some produce and dove headfirst into the task this week with the assistance of my birthday present - a food processor!
Step 1... wash/cut/scoop/prick/peel/chop

Step 2: cook (bake, steam, etc)
Step 3: stick it in this great contraption
Step 4: put product in ice cube trays, freeze, pop out
Step 5: Store in freezer bags for up to 3 months (optimal use) - take out cubes as needed!
For $6.94 I now have 129 oz of babyfood. The carrots cost a little over 1 cent an ounce (amazing deal - $1 for 5 lbs), butternut squash was 9 cents an ounce, and sweet potatoes were 7 cents an ounce. I didn't look for a good deal on the squash and potatoes... since they're not in season and I didn't take the time to look around, I just bought them at the same store I got the carrots. So, who knows, maybe I can make those for even cheaper if I shop right. All in all, I am quite satisifed and will be doing this again!

That's awesome Jordyn! What a great mom you are!
good for you, jordyn! peas are also a good one to do (i would buy the big bag from costco, but you might be able to get them cheaper if you shop good sales!).
Wow.. I've always heard it would be more expensive to do stuff like that... obviously I haven't tried it out to see if it was true :) But good job.. You'll have to let me know if Mason will enjoy them as much as the over the counter stuff :) You def. are one smart cookie haha
I always made Marné's food for the same reasons. It's so easy, too. I also made green beans from a big bag at Costco. You can do fruit, too, like apples, pears, berries, the list goes on and on. I'd mix it up and make different combos. You can add rice or pasta later on, and even chicken.
Thats so funny cause I was just telling my husband that I wanted to try making baby food and was curious if it would be worth it or not, and after seeing how easy it was for you and cheep I am defintley going to try it when the time comes. And now I know who to call if I have any questions. Your awesome!
AMAZING!
