I don't think I've blogged about the pregnancy for a while... sorry to neglect! Things continue to pick up pace -- Matt felt the baby kick for the first time on Father's Day (how about that for timing!) and now we can feel/watch him ALL the time! He is a lively one and keeps us
entertained already!
We also went and started the grueling process of registering (for whatever reason, I have yet to truly enjoy a day of any kind of registering... it just saps the life out of me). Even though it wasn't my favorite 6 hours spent, I'll admit it was fun picking out and looking at things and feeling like we were making progress at getting ready! It was also funny to me how extensive those check lists are they give you in the store... making you feel as though your baby needs 2 million items to survive. Don't they just eat, sleep, and poop? :)
On another note, I was thrilled when I first saw the "stork parking" spot while shopping; however, it got me thinking about what it implied when a pregnant woman was given the chance to park closest to the handicap parking. So, although I may have been excited about the spot initially, I have a feeling I am going to now park further out (even if it's just the parking spot next to it) just in spite. haha I know, I know, beware of pride. It's alright, you can call me silly...
After a quick view of the photo below, you will easily see that I have apparently "popped"! I have been comparing the 20 week to the 24 week picture in amazement... no wonder I've been having these terrible growing pains in my hips! The belly is still a shape shifter - sometimes I look like this, sometimes I think I look twice as big :)
Alas, no name still... but we're starting to work on it! Too bad I'm not one of those girls who had a full name picked out by age 5. What can I say, I like to live life on the wild side ;)
I'm going to end this post with a question/shout out to all the Moms out there (and Dads, if you feel so inclined!) -- after experiencing the plethora of baby gear/accessories/doo-dads out there: what one baby product/item could you not live without?

Caleb lived on milk and mylicon for a while there, so I would recommend that. I would also recommend a good bouncer/swing of some sort so you can have your hands free for a minute to make dinner! Look into getting a sling or some kind of baby carrier for this same purpose if your kid can't stand you putting him down :) A former roommate of mine just posted a blog about this exact topic. Check it out www.melis-aaron-life.blogspot.com
Definetly some sort of bouncer or swing! A sling carrier is great too, you can actually hold your baby and have your arms free at the same time :)
Caleb surprised us by being born 4 weeks early so we had hardly anything! As soon as we got home from the hospital I had to send Bob out to get blankets and diapers lol.
Ok, not very helpful, but a swing and or bouncy seat are absolute musts for me. Besides that boppy pillows are AWESOME. I didn't have one with Landon, but I got one with Weston and it made all the difference!
Sounds like the swing/bouncer are the winners so far --- do any of you have a preference as far as which model?
i would say to go with somthing *simple* as far as the bouncers go. we have a detachable toy arch that goes over ours that has three detachable toys. i like being able to take it off because at the beginning you don't want to over-stimulate him. sometimes all the toys and music just freaks them out! now that andy's a little bigger, he likes batting the rattle toys and pulling them off and eating them. it's really cute.
a couple of more things... :) i would say park as far away as you can anywhere you go. the extra walking will be so good for you! all of my walking really helped with both my recoveries - and i *know* it helped with my vbac with andy. it may seem hard, but it will be so worth it!
the other thing: honestly, the only things i feel like we can't live without are diapers and *some* clothes (you already know how i feel about tons of clothes!). there are other things that i love having, but it is so easy to over-do it - as you've seen. i would say it's definitely better to have less than more. you live without for a while and you can tell if you really need something. if you find that you really aren't able to live without it, go get it and it will be worth it. this does NOT apply to things you get as gifts (unless they're absolutely ridiculous!) - live it up. if someone else wants to buy something that's a little impractical, enjoy it, but don't spend your own money on it!
(didn't i warn you about asking me for advice?! sorry this is so long.)
We love our bath sponge and they cost about $5 and are much easier to use than a baby bathtub-not worth it!
I would make sure you have a bouncer that vibrates. Also, make sure you have some large flannel blankets-- they are perfect for swaddling because the flannel kind of sticks to itself. If it weren't for swaddling, Bria would never sleep and I would be insane.
And some type of carrier like a sling or a bjorn. It makes it so much easier when they are tiny and you don't want to lug around the huge stroller. Bria doesn't always like to be in her stroller, but she loves the baby bjorn.
Wow lots of good advice already! I agree with Faith, simpler is better. If you don't see yourself using something - you more than likely won't! Things I would live without: Baby tub, I usually just got in the tub with her, any contraption that takes up tons of space, a special head pillow, a diaper pail (it is just as easy to knot it up in a grocery sack and throw it in with the rest of the trash).
Things I would go ahead and register for : a breast pump, burp clothes, a good camera if you don't have one, a diaper bag you are BOTH willing to carry that will be easily organized . . .
I'll think some more and may leave another comment :)
wow! this is fantastic! keep it coming!
I dont have advice, but I do want to say that your looking great and I love the belly pictures!
You'd be surprised. Babies like the simplest things. You can give them a box and they are entertained for hours. The one thing that I couldn't live without is a Munchkin mesh food feeder.(Probably more for 4 months and up)I would try to describe it on here but I would probably sound crazy. But it's just that! a mesh food feeder. I love it because I could put frozen grapes (for teething) or just an chunks of apple. Drew loved it and I felt much better giving it to her instead of a pacifier! It's very inexpensive too. Another thing I couldn't do without is the Playtex bottles with disposable inserts.
After my four I'd say you need the obvious, diapers, wipes, and clothes. But after those I'd choose the boppy (I had two one for upstairs and one for down! They work for nursing, "holding" the baby and general support), a bouncy seat, and a Baby Ergo (way better than the bjorn). At about three months we use the Bumbo (soft seat) non-stop.
Definitely a bouncer, but not a swing (some babies don't like it and most tend to like the bouncer). I don't recommend a sling unless you get one that is adjustable, like a ring-sling. I actually much prefer wraps, they are also easier on your back than slings.
Other than that I love the gerber prefold cloth diapers. They are SO versatile (burp cloths, towels etc.) and work really well on the changing table because my baby would tend to do her business while changing her diaper. Fun stuff to look forward to!
Well, I agree with about everyone, but if there was one thing that if I could have out of everything it would be........a massive stack and supply of diapers.
Stock up with Newborns, you can get 80 ct. for as low as $11 at Walmart for the no-name brands or $17 for the Huggies. You will need them more than you think.
Also the 1's and 2's, you can get 220 ct at Sam's for $36. I would stock up like crazy. It is better now then later.
